One of the leaders of the western heavy music revolution,
Caveat released their debut album, "The Biggest Secret" (independent),
in May 2004, to favourable reviews from the local music community. More
than a year later, the group returned with a self-titled EP that has
their fans banging their heads in approval. If "The Biggest Secret"
was the sound of a band trying to find it niche, Caveat's follow up
EP is an unapologetic shout to forge ahead, devil horns to the sky.
To understand the evolution of this unique band, one only has to look
at the origins of Caveat. Formed in Calgary, Alberta, in 2002 by Greg
Musgrave (vocals/guitar) and bassist Terry Baldwin, Caveat enlisted
percussionist Casey Rogers in late 2003. The trio recorded a full-length
album, entitled "The Biggest Secret", in 2004 but soon realized their
desire to broaden their sound with a second guitarist. This led to a
brief hiatus from performing for Caveat, as ex-Thorazine shredder Joe
Sikorski joined the fold and the band went to work on writing new material
and refining their sound.
In 2005, the newly cemented line-up produced a professional, five-song
EP, featuring 26 minutes of accessible, progressive metal that combines
aggressive metal vocals with three-part harmonies, funk influenced bass
lines and traditional thrash-metal guitar riffs. Besides showcasing
three new tracks, the EP also includes re-recorded versions of "Immortalized"
and "State of Grace" from 2004's "The Biggest Secret" with the intent
of demonstrating the extent to which the band sound has improved since
their earlier release.
With over 50 past performances in and around Western Canada, playing
with such acts as King's X, Into Eternity, Unexpect and Wide Mouth Mason,
Caveat has formed a rabid and loyal local following who are attracted
to the band's distinct multi-layered sound and intensely entertaining
live show. Caveat has been featured in no less than eight print publications
in the last year, including The Calgary Sun, Beatroute Magazine, REK
Magazine & Absolute Underground.
Now with the spring 2007 release of Caveat's 3rd andmost involved album
to date entitled 'Red', the band showcases their steady writing and
musical growth over 2006 which has resulted in a much more focused collection
of songs delivering both a heavier and more technical approach to the
songwriting resulting in their most complex and elaborate album yet.
The next year promises a steady schedule of performances booked across
Canada promoting 'Red', while continuing to push forward an awakening
of Canadian metal with a unique and distinct sound.

Caveat was named as Artist Spotlight at TheProgFiles.com for January
2008. Riding on the tails of a top notch review, this feature includes
an interview with Caveat's Greg Musgrave. They summed it up by saying
"Caveat - caution: a warning against certain acts: "a caveat against
unfair practices" Here's your warning... These Canadian Prog metal masters
play with such ferocity and technical expertise your listening appendages
may very well bleed from the crushing musical torrent. With their latest
sacrifice to all that is heavy, "Red" is quickly gaining momentum and
more than worthy of acquiring. You can read the feature and interview

Neo-Zine calls Caveat "both sweet and scalding", with "Red"
being "so fresh and new that its hot! The band seems comfortable at
any speed or tempo, and they create a structre that allows them to adjust
those things very effectively. Of course, the pit friendly mosh parts
are a favorite. They are tempered with nice melodic passages and sweet
sounding solos. This CD might go over with a larger segment of music
fans, but it will probably be be just "hard" enough for extremists,
purists, and hard core genre conservatives." You can read the full review
